Coral and the Giggling Shell

A Reedy River Tale

One bright morning, Coral found a shell on the reef that would not stop giggling.

She shook it. She tickled it. She asked it very politely. The shell only giggled louder.

A clownfish swam by and started to laugh too. Then a crab. Then a whole school of sardines.

Soon the entire reef was wobbling with laughter, and nobody could remember why.

Inside the shell sat one tiny shrimp, telling himself jokes because he had no one to tell them to.

So Coral invited him to every party after that. He still tells the jokes. She still laughs first.
